About
Andre Makram
I am a CTO. Before that I was a Director of Engineering at DocuSign, and before that an engineer at Microsoft. That is 22 years of shipping software and leading the people who ship it.
What I do now
At Beeye, a Montreal startup that builds an ERP for accounting firms, I lead engineering. Since 2024 the team grew from 3 to 9 engineers, releases moved from monthly to 3.5 times a week, and customer churn fell from 15% to 2.5%. We won $2M in federal AI research grants, passed SOC 2, and built an AI loop and MCP architecture into the product.
Where I come from
At DocuSign I went from engineer to lead to Senior Engineering Manager to Director. I ran three teams with 13 engineers and 3 managers. My teams cut cycle time from 4 weeks to under 2, cut recovery time from 7 days to 12 hours, and raised team morale from 60 to 76. I promoted 5 people from junior to principal.
At Microsoft I worked on SharePoint and Project for 8 years, with one US patent filing. I hold a B.Eng. in Computer Engineering from Concordia University.
What I write about
Resilience has two parts. You can withstand a hard situation, and you can recover from it fast. Both are skills. Athletes practice them. So can engineers. My tools are simple:
- Introspection: notice the feeling, ask why, stop at "good enough for now".
- Practice: take the next uncomfortable situation. Then reflect.
- Peace: notice the trigger. Respond on purpose, not on reflex.
- Empathy: see their side first. Then act.
I also write about AI product strategy, cloud modernization, and how to scale a team without burning it out.
